Sealed Agm Battery or Gel Battery: Which is better?

  • Sealed AGM Battery or Gel Battery: Which is better?

Both are classified as sealed lead-acid batteries, AGM (absorbent glass mat) batteries and gel batteries are often mistaken for the same. Both batteries have similar characteristics, such as deep cycle capability, anti-overflow design, and can be used in different directions. These two battery types are also known for their low self-discharge, low maintenance, and anti-vibration characteristics. However, Sealed Agm Battery and Gel are two completely different batteries.

We compared the two battery types to help you understand which one is right for your needs.

      Similarities

These two batteries are classified as Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) batteries. The oxygen generated on the positive plate of the lead-acid battery is absorbed by the negative plate. In turn, the negative plate will produce water. This helps to dissipate the heat generated by the chemical reaction produced by the electrolyte. Therefore, users do not need to water these batteries, which are maintenance-free.

      difference

The Sealed Agm Battery uses a special glass mat made of fine glass fiber. This is to absorb the electrolyte between the battery panels.

On the other hand, gel batteries use a special type of silica gel to hold the electrolyte together. The thick consistency of the material allows electrons to flow freely from the board.
